Rafting

Adrenaline and bright emotions!

A bus ride in the direction of the most northern and mountainous regions of Montenegro along a beautiful mountain road winding among high cliffs.

The Tara River Canyon is the second largest in the world after the Colorado River Canyon, it was recognized as a national park and included in the UNESCO World Heritage List back in 1977. The path to the river is not close, but the journey through the picturesque area will not leave anyone indifferent. Tara makes most of her journey, sandwiched between high rocks. The nature of its flow is truly “mountainous” – with rifts and whirlpools, and only closer to the confluence with the Piva River becomes calm and unhurried. In summer, the river has a beautiful malachite color, its waters carry a refreshing coolness even in the most intense heat. The water temperature rarely exceeds 12 – 15 degrees.

The further road goes along the canyon of the Piva River (length 4 km, depth 1000 m), and then crosses it, so that travelers will not only see the dam, but also pass through it. After a short time, the group will be at the target. And then .. Waves, rapids, rapid current! All in all, a real adventure! The descent along the river takes about two and a half hours, full of pleasure and joy. During short stops on the shore, you can take a break, swim, admire the beauty of pristine nature and take pictures against the backdrop of a forest waterfall.

At the end of the rafting, a delicious lunch is provided in a restaurant on the shore. You will be offered a salad of fresh vegetables, fragrant soup, and then a selection of tender trout or young lamb “from under the sacha” baked with potatoes.
Rafting on Tara has II category of difficulty, so it is completely safe and suitable for people without special training. Tourists from 4 to 70 years old are allowed.

The monastery was founded by the Metropolitan Bishop of Herzegovina Basil in the 17th century. There Vasily died in 1671, and a few years later he was canonized and declared a saint. His body rests in the tomb of the cave dedicated to the Entrance of the Mother of God into the Temple.

The monastery acquired its present appearance in 1923-1926 after a fire that destroyed the main part of the complex. Fortunately, the two small churches of the cave were not damaged and they are of great value to the entire monument. The frescoes in the View Church were made towards the end of the 17th century.

Another church dedicated to the Holy Cross is located within a cave on the upper level of the Monastery. It was painted by the master Radul, who skillfully coped with the natural forms of the cave, placing the frescoes directly on the surface of the rock and the southern wall.
